Mark Huber

When Mark Huber moved to Bellingham in 1988, he camped in someone's backyard off Eldridge at night and practiced saxophone on the sands of Squalicum Harbor by day. Ten years later he could be found sitting in, filling in, and playing in every kind of band there was around town from Jazz, to Zydeco, to the jump swing of NY Jimmy and the Jive Five. Somewhere around the millennium, Robert Blake moved into his backyard and got him talking about his Travels around Europe in the late 70's with The Rusty Bucket Band. One night after a few bottles of red wine and a few stories around the kitchen table, Mark dug up an old tape of himself playing and singing "Fishing Blues" at a club in Bergen, Norway.

Although they had never played together, and Mark had rarely played harmonica in the last 10 years, Robert asked him to play on his next record. Mark joined former band mates, Dan Lowinger and Jeff Gray, from NY Jimmy and the Jive five, to play on The High, Wide, and Handsome Band.

Mark Huber currently keeps a busy schedule of gigging with various bands around the northwest. He can still be found accompanying Robert on his solo material as well in what has now become Blake's smokey-beer-beer- joint-party-band: The High, Wide, and Handsome Band.
