In 1999 my music took a twist. As well as writing songs for myself, I was writing songs for my then band, The Basement Swing. At the same time I was diving into fiddle tunes, old-timey, and the music of Bill Monroe. When not playing with the Swing Band, I was playing this various music around town-sometimes for food, sometimes for beer, and sometimes for the stars. It was a good year. At some point I started bringing my swing tunes to the informal sessions I was having with Jan Peters and the idea for this record was born. Leaving the basement, I found a new home for my swingish tunes in the hands of New York Jimmy and the Jive Five members, Dan, Jeff and Mark along with the Jan Peters. Gid Tanner likes his music just like his licker: High, Wide, and Handsome Band. The Band is: Jan Peters, mandolin/fiddle; Dan Lowinger, electric guitar; Mark Huber, harmonica; Jeff Gray, upright bass; and Robert Blake, sings, plays guitar & writes the songs.
